Books I’m Reading

Leading Things You Didn't Start

This is a great book for anyone who seeks to follow Jesus and lead groups and/or organizations. While I happen to be working in a setting that I "started" (as a church planter), this book still is helpful in offering wisdom for how to lead in this setting. I highly recommend this book!

When God Spoke Greek

I'm enjoying When God Spoke Greek: The Septuagint and the Making of the Christian Bible. Since writing my thesis, I've come to appreciate the Greek Old Testament as having a central place in the study of the New Testament and early church. Bible nerds: you need to read this one!

The Spirit of Early Christian Thought

What I love about this book is the way it weaves theological discussions with the "on the ground" reality of the early Christian movement. It gives me a deeper appreciate for the early Christian writers and the church they helped guide.

Dear White Peacemakers

This is an amazing book by my friend Osheta Moore. I endorsed it and said: "This book is grace-oriented, Jesus-centered, truth-driven, shame-defying, and shalom-seeking … Osheta is the vulnerable, wise, pastoral voice the church needs as we discern a path forward for resisting racial injustice. I hope church leaders and attenders in the United States and beyond will ponder her words and put them into practice."

The Abide Bible (NET)

No other Bible is so dedicated to spiritual formation than The Abide Bible. I'm not only a fan, but use in in my own life with Jesus. While I have another "study Bible" (or 2…ok, more like 5) that I use, this is where I go for those quiet moments with God. This is my favorite devotional Bible, hands down.

After Doubt: How to Question Your Faith without Losing It

A.J. Swoboda is someone who regularly puts words to what I'm thinking. He is a pastor-theologian who brings both of these skills to bear on a topic—deconstruction—that can either kill faith or bring someone closer to Jesus. A.J. is a proven guide to anyone longing to move towards God in the midst of doubt.
